How to create a proper business website
Quick answer
A proper business website does four jobs: it gets found, it earns trust, it makes the next step obvious, and it measures what it produces. To create one, set one goal, choose the right type of website, register the domain in your name, plan a page for each service, design for phones first, add click to call and Messenger, set up SEO and tracking, test the speed, then launch and keep it updated.

Key takeaways
- A website is proper when it brings inquiries, not when it looks finished.
- Nearly all Filipino internet users go online by phone. Design for that first.
- Every page needs a clear next step: call, message, book or buy.
- If you cannot count the inquiries it brings, you cannot tell if it works.
Key terms explained (7)
- Domain
- Your website address, such as yourbusiness.com or yourbusiness.ph, renewed every year.
- Hosting
- The server that keeps your website online.
- Call to action
- The button or link that tells a visitor what to do next, such as Call now or Book a visit.
- Mobile-first design
- Designing each page for a phone screen first, then adapting it for larger screens.
- Core Web Vitals
- Google’s three measures of page experience: loading speed, response to taps and layout stability.
- Structured data
- Code that tells search engines and AI tools who you are, where you are and what you do.
- Conversion tracking
- Setup that records when a visitor calls, messages, books or buys.
What makes a business website “proper”?
It brings in inquiries. Everything else supports that.
Many Philippine businesses have a website that exists but does nothing. It was built once, it looks fine, and nobody can say whether it has ever brought in a customer. That is point A.
A proper website is point B. It shows up when people search, it answers their questions, it makes calling or messaging easy, and it records every inquiry so you know it is working. The difference is rarely the design. It is the four jobs below.

What are the essential elements of a business website?
Here are the elements every business website needs, grouped by the job they do. Use it as a checklist for a new build or an existing site.
| Element | Job | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Domain in your name | Foundation | Registered to the business owner, not the builder |
| Hosting and secure https | Foundation | Padlock in the browser, daily or weekly backups |
| Editable content system | Foundation | You can change text, prices and photos yourself |
| Mobile-first layout | Clear | Readable and tappable on a phone without zooming |
| Clear headline and offer | Clear | Says what you do, for whom and where in one line |
| Simple navigation | Clear | Five to seven menu items, services easy to find |
| One page per service | Found | Each service has its own page with its own title |
| Location or service area | Found | Cities or areas you serve, with your address if you have one |
| Titles, descriptions and headings | Found | Every page has a unique title and a clear H1 |
| Structured data | Found | Business name, address, hours and services in machine-readable form |
| Answers to common questions | Found | Price ranges, timing, coverage and process, answered directly |
| Real photos | Trusted | Your place, team and work, not only stock images |
| Reviews and proof | Trusted | Google reviews, results, credentials or client logos |
| About page | Trusted | Who runs the business and why customers should choose it |
| Click to call and chat buttons | Next step | Call, Messenger or Viber one tap away on every page |
| Short forms or booking | Next step | Three to five fields, or a calendar for appointments |
| Local payment options | Next step | GCash, Maya, cards or bank transfer if you sell online |
| Conversion tracking | Measured | Calls, messages, forms and sales counted by source |
| Privacy notice | Measured | Explains how form data is used, in line with the Data Privacy Act |

Two of these matter more in the Philippines than in most markets. Meltwater’s Digital 2026 data shows that 97.8% of Filipino internet users go online using mobile phones, so a site that is awkward on a phone is awkward for almost everyone. And digital wallets such as GCash and Maya lead online payments, accounting for 39% of transactions in the same report, so an online store without them loses buyers at checkout.

What are the types of business website?
Choose the type before you choose a builder or a template. Each type needs different elements on top of the essentials above.

|---|---|---|
| 1. Landing page | One offer or one campaign | A single message, one form, no menu distractions |
| 2. Portfolio or personal brand | Show past work | Project gallery, case notes, inquiry form |
| 3. Business or brochure site | Explain services, get inquiries | Service pages, area pages, reviews, contact options |
| 4. Blog or content site | Attract readers through search | Categories, search, author pages, article layouts |
| 5. Nonprofit, school or church | Inform, enroll, collect donations | Events, programs, donation or enrollment forms |
| 6. Restaurant site | Bring diners and orders | Menu with prices, hours, map, ordering or delivery links |
| 7. Booking or appointment site | Fill the calendar | Live availability, reminders, deposits or payments |
| 8. Online store on Shopify | Sell products with little upkeep | Product pages, local payment gateway, shipping rates |
| 9. Online store on WooCommerce | Sell products on WordPress | Same as Shopify, plus hosting and security upkeep |
| 10. Real estate or property listings | Generate buyer and tenant leads | Search filters, maps, listing pages, inquiry per listing |

Most local businesses need type 3, 6 or 7. For what each type costs to build in the Philippines, see how much a website costs in the Philippines.
How do I create a proper business website, step by step?
- Set one goal. Decide the one action you want visitors to take: call, message, book or buy. Every later choice serves it.
- Choose the type. Match the type of website to that goal, using the table above.
- Register the domain and hosting in your name. If a builder owns them, they own your website.
- Plan the pages. Home, one page per service, one page per main area you serve, about, contact and FAQ.
- Write the content first. Answer what customers ask: what you do, where, for whom, how much and how to start. Put the answer in the first sentence.
- Design for phones first. Big text, short paragraphs, buttons a thumb can hit. Then adapt it for desktop.
- Add the next step everywhere. Click to call, Messenger or Viber, a short form or a booking calendar on every page.
- Set up SEO and tracking. Unique titles and descriptions, structured data, Google Search Console, and tracking for every call, message and form.
- Test before launch. Check speed, every link, every form and every page on a real phone.
- Launch, then maintain. Update content, back up, renew the domain and review the numbers every month.

Assess my website freeHow fast should a business website be?
Google’s Core Web Vitals give three targets. A page passes when it meets all three for at least 75% of real visits, on mobile and desktop.
| Measure | What it checks | Good target |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint | How fast the main content appears | 2.5 seconds or less |
| Interaction to Next Paint | How fast the page responds to a tap | 200 milliseconds or less |
| Cumulative Layout Shift | How much the layout jumps while loading | 0.1 or less |

What are the most common website mistakes?
1The builder owns the domain
When the relationship ends, the website goes with them. Always register the domain and hosting in the business owner’s name.
2One page tries to sell everything
A single services page listing ten services rarely ranks for any of them. Give each service its own page.
3The contact button is hard to find
Visitors on a phone will not scroll to the footer to find a number. Put call and chat buttons where the thumb already is.
4Prices are a mystery
“Message us for rates” on every page loses people who are comparing. A range or a starting price keeps them reading.
5Nothing is tracked
Without tracking, a website that brings ten inquiries a month and one that brings none look the same. See our website and conversion tracking service.
How do we take your website from point A to point B?
Most websites do not need a rebuild. They need the missing jobs added in the right order. This is how our free website assessment works.
| Stage | What we do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Assess | Check your site against the four jobs, on a real phone, against your top three local competitors | A plain-language report of what works and what does not |
| 2. Prioritize | Rank every fix by how much it should move calls and inquiries | A short, ordered fix list, with what you can do yourself |
| 3. Fix or rebuild | Fix the gaps, or rebuild only if the site truly cannot be saved | A site that is found, trusted, clear and measured |
| 4. Track and improve | Count every call, message and form, then improve what the numbers show | A monthly view of what the website brings in |

Do I need a privacy policy on my website in the Philippines?
If your website collects personal data, such as names and phone numbers through a contact form, you should explain how you use it in a privacy notice, in line with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the National Privacy Commission’s guidance. Ask a lawyer for advice specific to your business.
