Hand holding a phone showing ChatGPT recommending local businesses

How to get recommended by ChatGPT and AI search

Quick answer

To get your business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, do three things. Make sure AI can tell exactly which business you are. Get other trusted websites, directories and reviews to mention you. Publish direct answers to the questions your buyers ask. In a 2026 study of Philippine brands, only 5% of the sources AI cited were the brands’ own websites, so mentions elsewhere matter most.

Key takeaways

  • AI tools name only a handful of businesses per answer. Being one of them is the goal.
  • Most of what AI cites is other websites talking about you, not your own site.
  • Use one consistent name, address and description everywhere so AI knows who you are.
  • In the Philippines, many AI answer slots are still open. That window will not last.

Why does AI search matter for Philippine businesses?

Because your customers are already asking it who to hire.

Filipinos are among the heaviest ChatGPT users in the world. A Meltwater and We Are Social report found that 42.4% of Filipino internet users had used ChatGPT in the past month, against a global average of 26.5%.

People also use these tools to choose local businesses. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey of US consumers found that 45% had used an AI tool for a local business recommendation, up from 6% a year earlier. Philippine figures are not yet published, but the pattern is the same: people ask, and the AI names a few businesses.

That is the difference from Google. A search results page shows ten links and maps. An AI answer names three to five businesses. If yours is not one of them, the customer may never hear your name.

How does ChatGPT decide which business to recommend?

The clearest local evidence comes from a 2026 study by Spiralytics, a Makati agency. It ran 1,146 buyer questions for 26 brands through ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, then read every answer. Four findings matter for any business owner.

  • Philippine brands are still easy to include. They were named in 83% of the answers they should have appeared in. US brands managed 40%. Many slots here are still unclaimed.
  • Your own website is a small part of it. Only 5% of the 7,308 sources the AI cited were the brands’ own sites. The rest were news, directories, roundups and competitors.
  • Backlink strength did not predict mentions. A brand with a very weak link profile was named every time. A long-established US site with strong links was never named.
  • Each tool behaves differently. Gemini named Philippine brands 63% of the time, Perplexity 57% and ChatGPT 45%. Checking one tool gives you half the picture.

In short, AI tools reward two things: knowing exactly which business you are, and seeing other sites vouch for you.

How do I get my business into AI answers?

1Make sure AI knows exactly who you are

Ask ChatGPT what your business does. If it hesitates, mixes you up with another company, or describes your parent company, fix that first. Use one business name, address and phone number everywhere. Write a clear About page. Add structured data to your website so machines can read who you are.

2Complete your Google Business Profile

Gemini and Google’s AI answers draw on Google’s own data. Fill in every field: categories, services, hours, photos and your service area. Read why a Google Business Profile gets views but no calls for the common gaps.

3Get mentioned on other websites

This step moves the needle most. List your business on trusted Philippine directories, industry associations and review platforms. Pitch local news and roundup articles. Every mention on a site AI trusts is another source that can name you.

4Answer your buyers’ questions directly

AI builds answers from pages where the answer already exists. Write pages that answer real questions in the first sentence: what it costs, how long it takes, who it is for, and which areas you serve. That is how this article is built.

5Earn steady, recent reviews

BrightLocal found that 97% of people who use AI for recommendations at least sometimes check the answer against real reviews. A recommendation that leads to a weak review page will not turn into a booking.

Why does AI skip some businesses?

The Spiralytics study found three ways AI fails a business. None of them shows up in rankings or analytics, so most owners never notice.

1It confuses you with another business

Ask about your business by name and the AI describes a different company with a similar name, sometimes abroad. Common with generic names.

2It will not commit to who you are

The AI replies that several businesses share your name and asks which one you mean. That is an identity problem, and it is fixable with consistent details and structured data.

3Your brand disappears into a bigger one

A branch or sub-brand gets folded into the parent company or a franchise name. The customer remembers the bigger brand, not yours.

Check for these before anything else. Then work through this list.

How much does AI search optimization cost in the Philippines?

Hashmeta, a Philippine agency, publishes GEO pricing of about ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 a month for startups and local businesses, and ₱30,000 to ₱75,000 a month for small and medium businesses. Those figures come from the agency’s own market research, so treat them as a guide.

In practice, AI visibility rarely stands alone. It shares most of its groundwork with local SEO: your profile, your listings, your pages and your reviews. For the wider picture, read what local SEO costs in the Philippines.

When you compare providers, ask three things. Which buyer questions will they test? Which AI tools will they check? And will they show you the actual answers each month, not only a score? See how we approach it in our AI search visibility service.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Do three things. Make sure AI can tell exactly which business you are, with one consistent name, address and description everywhere. Get other trusted websites, directories and reviews to mention you. Publish direct answers to the questions your buyers ask. AI tools build their answers mostly from pages about you, not only from your own site.

What is GEO or AI search optimization?

GEO, or generative engine optimization, is the work of getting your business named in answers from AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. It is also called AEO or AI search optimization. SEO aims for a ranking on a results page. GEO aims to be one of the few names the AI actually recommends.

How much does AI search optimization cost in the Philippines?

One Philippine agency publishes GEO pricing of about ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 a month for startups and ₱30,000 to ₱75,000 a month for small and medium businesses. Many SEO providers now include AI visibility work in their monthly fee. Compare what is delivered, not only the price.

Do I need a strong website to show up in AI answers?

A clear website helps, but it is not enough on its own. In a 2026 study of Philippine brands, only 5% of the sources AI tools cited came from the brands’ own websites, and backlink strength showed no measurable link to being mentioned. Mentions on other sites mattered more.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

Plan in months. Fixing how AI identifies your business can show up quickly once tools refresh their sources, while earning mentions on other sites takes longer. Test the same questions every month so you can see the change.
